We are in what's called the "Dog Days of Summer". Baseball is starting its second half of the season, but other than that there is not much going on as far as broadcast television.

This weekend is no exception, but I don't want you going blindly into the weekend without giving you the heads up on these events:

Thursday is usually when we release our weekly MLB Power Rankings. Due to the break in the action I thought we'd have a "fun with stats" class.

If you're a baseball fan chances are you love stats. You spend part of your day at work looking up league leaders, team rankings, situational stats, spray charts, etc.

Part of the fun at the All-Star break is to take a look at what stats some ... Read More

The dust has settled from UFC 148 and now the UFC looks to build upon their momentum with a free night of fights on Fuel TV.

The Main Event features Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman.

Munoz is riding a four fight win streak and has won seven of his last eight fights overall.

Weidman is a perfect 8-0 in his young career with four of those wins coming within ... Read More

With the recent Steve Nash signing and free agent buzz of Ray Allen, it merits a discussion on the longevity of NBA players as well as how effective they are in their twilight years.

In compiling a short list of the top players in their late 30's, one needs to consider how effective the player has been recently. Just because the player has had a great NBA career doesn't mean he's still ... Read More

This has been one of the most unpredictable baseball seasons in recent memory.

Sure, in the American League we see the Yankees, White Sox, and Rangers leading their divisions. The Sox can be considered a surprise, but the real chaos is in the National League.

Raise your hand if you had Washington, Pittsburgh, and the Dodgers in first place at ... Read More

The big news in sports on Wednesday was not Joey Chestnut eating 68 hot dogs or Carlos Lee being traded to Miami (did anybody really care about that?), but rather it was Steve Nash signing a 3-year, $27M deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

ESPN, per their usual incorrect breaking news policy, had a scroll at the bottom of the screen stating Kobe Bryant was actively pursuing Nash ... Read More

The 2012 edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game will take place on July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Starting with the 2003 All-Star Game, World Series home-field advantage has been awarded to the league winning the All-Star Game. Prior to that, the leagues alternated home-field advantage in the World Series each year.

The initial marketing campaign ... Read More

Another day and another Dwight Howard trade request. Oh wait, he didn't request a trade, no he did to Los Angeles...scratch that he only wants to play for Orlando. WAIT! It's Brooklyn or bust now.

Any sensible sports fan that has remotely followed Howard's saga over the last couple of years has got to be fed up by now. And what about those fans in Orlando? Are you still going ... Read More

It's hard to believe but the MLB season is already coming up on the halfway mark.

This week, in lieu of NL and AL power rankings, I have compiled the overall Top 10 MLB Rankings.

Rankings are not based off of W-L records alone. Other factors include strength of schedule, recent injuries, and overall team statistics.

Please note: ... Read More

I feel it is fair to preface this piece by stating the Los Angeles Rams ripped out my heart in 1995 when they moved to St. Louis.

Much like the feeling some of you have felt with your beloved team relocating, it hurts. Especially when you are a fifteen years old and some of the best moments you had growing up was watching the Rams play at Anaheim Stadium with your Dad.

The NBA season has come to a close and for many of us it's on to the dog days of the MLB season as we wait for football to arrive.

I'm sure the LeBron haters have realized that he winning a ring isn't the end of the world. Besides, right after the Heat won the championship we were all back to our miserable lives while he was celebrating.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the break in the NBA. Not having ... Read More

UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II takes place Saturday night in Brazil.

What was once a highly anticipated card that was to have featured Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen, Jose Aldo, and Vitor Belfort, has turned into what many would consider a TUF finale.

There have been so many changes to the card that the UFC offered a full refund for all ticket holders who no longer wished ... Read More

1. (1) Los Angeles Dodgers (42-27)

The UFC starts their busy weekend with an exciting fight card in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Gray Maynard and Clay Guida headline the fight card which takes place one night before the UFC's other event of the weekend, UFC 147.

Although this is what's considered a "free" fight card for the fans, it is more anticipated than the $50+ UFC 147.
